Due North Leather Camera Straps
I’ve reached the point where I kind of have all of the camera stuff that I really *need*. There’s always another lens or vintage film camera that I would gladly take, but in terms of actual needs for photography, I’m kind of set. But I do have some wants, and one of those was a nice handmade leather camera strap. There are a lot of great options available right now, but I have been using Peak Design straps for several years because their Anchor Link Connectors allow me to quickly switch between a shoulder strap or wrist strap and use my straps on any of my cameras. So I specifically wanted a leather strap that utilized the Peak Design Anchor Link Strap Connectors that would be completely interchangeable with my existing straps. This requirement limited the options somewhat, but I still found several leather straps with this option.
After a lot of searching and browsing, I decided on the Baron strap from Due North Leather Goods Company in Toronto. I love the look of this strap with the black leather and red edging and stitching which looks great with my Sony mirrorless cameras and my vintage Minolta film cameras (especially the all-black SR-T 101). The strap is available in custom lengths from 30” to 54” (I got a 46” strap based on how I prefer to wear my adjustable-length Peak Design strap), and the price is under $100 USD.
Having never used a leather strap, I was a bit concerned about the comfort of the strap and if it would be too stiff. The Baron strap is 3/4” wide with a slight bevel on the underside and is very comfortable even for extended periods. The strap was also fairly supple out of the box, not floppy but certainly not too stiff.
After 3 months of use, I am very happy with the Due North Baron leather camera strap. It is durable and comfortable, and it looks fantastic! Mark has a good selection of standard neck and wrist straps in addition to the ones featuring the Peak Design Anchor Links, so if you are searching for a quality, handmade leather camera strap, I highly recommend Due North.
